The town of Jalpaiguri is the headquarter of the Jalpaiguri district, as well as the divisional, headquarter of the North Bengal Region. The town is situated in the middle of the fertile plains and also lies towards the south of the Himalayas which provides a glimpse of the Himalayas, and a glimpse of Mount Kanchenjunga. The town is surrounded by the Teesta River, the second largest river in West Bengal and is also home to smaller rivers like Karala, Dharala, and Panga. The Karala River flows between the towns separating the town into two halves. The town is famous for its tea cultivation and has many tea gardens in the area. It is well connected to other areas of the Dooars and is also very near to Siliguri.
